"I really appreciate the feelings and thoughts I've tried to express to family and friends (who really have no clue about
police work) - nicely printed out in a format I could hand to them. My mom's reading it now. ... your book was a great reminder
to me as to why I became a cop in the first place. Thank you."
- police officer, Seattle

"The way you talked about things made me feel like I knew those people or was there with you. Great stuff. ... Thanks
for writing the book, I feel more aware because of it. I have three friends who are police officers and had no idea that's
what their work world was like."

"I loaned a copy to a retired policeman here in town, and he thought you had done a great job of writing - he said he
could "picture" every word you wrote - high praise, indeed!"

"...Once again I wish to express my appreciation for your "Real" book. I am giving copies to my friends, former officers,

Police Department. Thanks for the real thing."

"... I've just finished reading your book and it was a great read. ... It was quite dangerous but fun as you say in your
book, I miss the job but not the bureaucracy. ..." (excerpted from a detailed letter).
- retired NYPD officer, New York
(The writer is a veteran of "the four-one" - 41st Precinct - "Fort Apache, The Bronx." The 1981
movie "Fort Apache the Bronx," starring Paul Newman was based on the experiences of this officer and his partner. It's
always great to hear from guys who have been there and back.)

"I just finished reading your book for the second time. Each time I couldn't put it down and each time I thoroughly enjoyed
it. ... I have been a working cop for the past 25 years and started on the ________ Police Department at a time when the last
vestiges of the "Old School" cops were in their twilight. ... I was awed at the tough, common sense approach they brought
to the job. ... congratulations on the book, just wish it had been longer."
- municipal police officer, Washington State

"I have recently returned from vacation in Maine where as part of my beach reading I had your book. ...
In May 2005 I retired (as an Inspector, same as a Lieutenant) after thirty-three years in London's Metropolitan Police
(joined in 1972). All my service (apart from the last four years where I worked in counter-terrorist protection duties) I
spent on patrol duties, as an officer, sergeant and finally Duty Inspector (Watch Commander). I'm now an Inspector in the
Ministry of Defence Police ... . In both forces the term "the real police" is regularly used to differentiate between those
in "patrol" and those that sit in offices!
Although we worked thousands of miles apart, your descriptions of the experiences of policing struck a very strong note
with me. A great book. I was sorry it ended ... .
Thanks again, until you reminded me I hadn't realised just how much policing changed during our time of service. If you
ever come over to the UK, I'd love to buy you a drink and chat things through.
- retired Inspector, London Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard).

I would like to make my best congratulations for your book "The Real Police." I am an Italian Carabinieri (Italian police
force) and I went to Seattle last March. I decided to go to the Police Museum and I found your book there. I read it in every
single detail despite the book isn't written in Italian.
I am in Carabinieri academy school to become a warrant officer in Velletri (close to Rome). I like how you operate and
work as a police force, but we have different methods based on the different reality we face every day, first of all the people.
But the spirit of being a cop is the same, the spirit to save a life, to help someone, to believe in what we do with passion
and knowledge.
Carabinieri officer, Italy
(The Carabinieri, founded in 1814, is the national police force of Italy. It also functions as the fourth
branch of the Italian military and has many complex military, law enforcement and diplomatic functions - everything from military
combat to investigating thefts of fine art and antiquities. They also have a sizeable uniformed presence in Italian civil
society and function like any police force. The writer of this letter is a law school graduate and currently an officer candidate
at the Carabinieri Academy.)
